Description

It may have been horrible diving this low season in Phuket, but that doesn’t mean the fish are not still there, it just means it is about three times more difficult to find them and get a decent photo! Juvenile Yellow Box Fish are fairly common even on some of the less coral heavy sites, so they make for quite good photography subjects on a bad day, where nothing else is around or everything is hiding real well.

Recently I’ve been getting some decent photos of these little fishies, they are, very very shy and are not easily photographed in most cases. What I have been doing recently though, which has helped a great deal, is not approaching them when I spot one in the distance and waiting until they get distracted by food or cleaning duties. That is the perfect time to sneak up on them, getting close enough for your macro lenses to focus, not an easy task if you use a point and shoot, though DSLR users can probably snap these guys from 5 meters away in Macro mode with their fancy lenses, but if you are not that lucky, stealth and deception are your best bets to get close!

Hypselodoris Pulchella Nudibranch

This Nudibranch is one of the most commonly mistaken or mis-identified Nudi's. Novice photographers who do not bother to really look up the names of their Nudi's have led to this one commonly being called 'Goniobranchus Annulatus', this is a real pain. So just for reference. The next photo is a [...]
