Description

For me one of the hardest of all the scorpion fish’s to find is this one, the Leaf or Leafy Scorpion. Why is it so hard to find, when other species like bearded and devils literally turn up everywhere, good question, I don’t know the answer, just that their rarity makes them a very exciting opportunity when spotted.

Leaf Scorpion can come in a variety of colors, I’ve seen two ever, one white (this one) and a yellow one, which was jammed into the side of a barrel sponge and photos were not possible. They can malt their skin every 7 – 14 days and with the malt like to change colors to match their surroundings. They can be, green, red, pink, brown, ocher, white and yellowish. So their is probably no such thing as racism between Leafy Scorpions ;)

Thankfully this little guy was hanging out in some blue tube corals. He was actually rocking up and down like a See Saw, his feet (pectoral fins) were the fixed point, than up and down he would go, hiding his face in the corals, making a photo pointless. So for this shot I had to wait, wait and wait some more for him to be in the right position, with his head clearly removed from the coral structure. Getting a photo of him yawning was just a bonus really, he happened to open his mouth while at the apex of one of his swings. Win for me, win for you!

White Eyed Moray – The Forest Through The Tree’s

I'm a big fan of Moray Eels, they always look like they are trying to tell a really bad joke or laughing maniacally at one. This one is called a White Eyed Moray, for obvious reasons, they don't get very big in most cases, and love to play/hunt inside the green cup and fan corals that abound on the [...]

Juvenile Decorator Crab

If you had not read the title coming here I would bet 5$ that you have no idea what the hell this thing is, am I right? To be fair, I'm taking an educated guess as I've never seen the decorator crab without it immensely dense coral growth protecting it, but these spider looking crabs simply don't fi [...]

Demon Stingers – A Fish With Many Names

Do you like arguing? This is the fish that will cause argument on a dive boat over what to write it down as in your log book. Some people call them Demon Stingers or Devil Stingers or Devil Sting Fish, probably because they hurt like hell if you step on one, add to this that they of course they love [...]
