Description

Another species of Shrimp that we just don’t get this far North in Thai waters is named the Coleman Shrimp, we found these little guys hanging out in a massive patch of garbage & broken bottles on our house reef in the Philippines. The Sea Urchins seemed to really like the garbage patches, so you spent some time inspecting each one to see what mysteries were hiding on them.

On this particular Urchin we saw two Shrimp which hadn’t happened up till that point, normally we had only found a single shrimp, if there was one at all on an Urchin. So it was definitely worth trying to get a few shots of them together. What I noticed though from checking the photos of them I took is that with my macro set-up it was impossible to get both shrimp’s in focus. Maybe one day I will be able to afford a real macro set-up!

With my macro wet lenses you have an extremely short focal range, we are talking a few millimeters, get it wrong and everything is out of focus, also I do not crop my photography, many photographers will crop their photos and enlarge the subject. That is basically a dishonest way of proving you can do Macro Photography, but it become useless for printing, you lose the clarity and sharpness needed for print. So I’ve settled for this photo as my pick of the bunch, I really like the amazing range of colours you can get from the Urchin’s with the right lighting.

Usually you don't get Seahorses covered in hair or algae like this one, I would say this is a l [...]
